Okay, so we are new to this and hopefully, these pics will show up. If not, we will try again at another time.
This is Spike, the newest addition to our family. He is a yearling and we are learning more and more everyday. He seems to have a great personality and we are in love.
Here he is crawling up my shirt.....very calm.
Spike going to his hide.
Half burrowed...he loves that!
He is a pure joy and we can't wait to learn and share as we go along. Thanks for everyones help. We love this site! _________________ Mommy and Daddy of Spike

Thanks for the comments. The bedding we use is coconut bark and so far, the humidity has not been an issue. I will tell you that it does stay more humid at night after the "moon light" is lit and the white light is turned off. During the day, it is a little bit lower, but no problems yet. We have a screen top covered with foil to keep the humidity in. We left about 6 inches from each end open so that we can place wet towels over the ends to help with the humidity and allow ventilation. We love it! He does like to burrow and in the pic where he is only hlaf burrowed, he is in the end of the cage closest to his water (less substrate). We put more substrate for him to burrow in near and under his hide where he spends the most of his time. When we turn the "moon light" on and he decides to go to sleep, we don't even see him. One thing about the cocnut bark that we have found though.......it is a bit dusty and requires misting of the cage to keep down the sneezing. We thought something may have been wrong with him, but we read on here somewhere that dust could be the problem and to try misting. We did and the sneezing stopped. Hoped this answered your questions! _________________ Mommy and Daddy of Spike

Here is his enclosure now. There are two holes cut out in the foil for his lamps and he also has 2 heat mats under the cage, one at each end. His basking spot is the small bark in the middle and his borrow is under the large bark at the right side of the tank, water pan at left. We are using the digital therms which are in the window above the cage, one for each end.

Oh ok. I thought about using coconut bark because I figured it would be less messy I just didn't know how it was gonna work for my tegu. I use coconut husk and it works pretty well. _________________ 0.1.0 arg b&w tegu-chubbs
