I'm a little worried about my colombian, DaVinci. The past few days he's been sleeping A LOT! He's normally out and about all day whether it be in his cage or not but for the past two or three days he's been sleeping a little more than I'm comfortable with. Yesterday he dug himself in around 3:30pm and didn't come out until this morning around 9am. It's 3:45 here now and he's been dug in since around 1pm and hasn't shown any signs of waking (even after two mistings and a me causing a ruckass changing his water). I just want to make sure he's alright. He's eating normally and from what I've read colombians don't hibernate (especially in April icon_confused.gif ) He started this around the same time I started placing a damp towel over the top of the cage to help stabilize humidity.

Does anyone have any suggestions? With the humidity higher is it causing him to want to sleep more? Is he just being lazy? Am I overreacting?

Ya your over reacting. Some times I go days without seeing my colombian, it's just how they are. They like to eat, bask, dig some holes, and bask some more and sleep all day.

Alright. I was just worried. He's normally very active so the sudden change caught me off guard. I was also thinking about his digestion. All he did today was come out, eat, and go back to bed with maybe about 5 minutes of basking max. Yesterday wasn't much different, I think he was running around the cage for maybe an hour, hardly any time basking. I just wanted to make sure he wasn't getting sick or something.

Mine's the same way. I leave food for him before i go to work and come back to most of the food gone and him too. Only on the weekends when i'm active around the room do I see him if I don't poke for him during the weekdays. I feel like i should install a mini tv on a wall so he has some activity when i'm gone. Regardless, he seems healthy and just had a nice shed.

I think Tupinambis mentioned that, in the wild, tegus will often spend most of the day in their burrows. My juvie tegu Orin pops out of his burrow at around 7am when the lights go on, and is usually back in it when I get home. I rarely seem to get to see him on weekdays unless I pop back home for something - whereupon he usually looks at me quizically as if to ask "What the hell are YOU doing here?"

On the other hand, my adult tegu likes to be out when we are - he will be out for lights on, and will emerge again when we come in through the door. Its kind of cute icon_smile.gif

That's cool. I hope my tegus will like me enough to do that icon_biggrin.gif I haven't seen him all day today... I think he's using the whole "wild" thing as an excuse to just be a lazy tegu icon_rolleyes.gif

Lol icon_smile.gif I think he just associates us being around with food! But he will come over and let himself be scratched and petted without any fuss, so its all good.
