Hey everyone. As you know I live in CA, and luckily I live rather close to a big canyon with all kinds of herp life. icon_biggrin.gif I caught a few fence lizards, then I noticed a really strange lizard that looked like a skink. It was about 4 inches total length. I let it go after studying it for a while. I noticed it had a tongue like a tegu or monitor. Well, I did some research and it is apparently related to tegus. It's called an orange throated whiptail.

Has anyone kept or bred these guys? they're like tegus on crack, and I've really fallen in love with em. icon_wink.gif Once I'm prepared for keeping them I could easily go catch another few. The biggest ones I've seen are about 10 inches, can they get bigger?

Thanks.

10-12 inched is about the norm, they are going to need very large enclosures for their size do to their activity levels, and a nice deep substrate and a hot basking spot, breeding threm wouldnt bee too hard especially if they are in your area, you could just keep them outdoors and nature would take car of the rest

Alright then. Thats how I had it set up in the first place anyway. About a foot of good, silty, diggable dirt, with a 120 basking spot. I caught a nice little 3 inch female (my best guess) today. Hopefully I can catch some males tomorrow. Are these basically small amievas?
