Hi Everyone,

My family and I run a small domestic and exotic animal rescue in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I do a lot of research on all sorts of different species, because we never really know what will be surrendered to us and I want to be prepared. We've had our first tegu surrendered, a 2 foot Black and White Argentine, so I've decided to start posting to share my experiences and ask questions as they come up...as, no matter how much research I've done, questions always arise once the animal is actually here!

I look forward to talking to you all!

If you're interested, our website is www.themcdonaldrescue.com

Hello from your neighbors down south, good to see you here. This site is full of useful information and very helpful people who care greatly for their (and others) tegus. Thanks for doing what you do, I am sure that is no easy job.

Welcome! I'm glad to see a fellow Canadian on this site!
I really commend what it is you are doing. I am very much like that as well and wish I could care for more but the lizard and two hegdehogs that I've taken in are already enough for me (on top of a cat and a multitude of feeder mice) I would love to come give you a hand some day and see what you are all about!
I'm curious, what would you say about doing a rescue animal babysit? As in I have rescued the animal and am now in need of a caring babysitter. It would be more experience in keeping a tegu (this time a red) and although I am a beginner as well I have experienced a lot and done a ton of research and I will teach you everything that I know!

Hi Insomniac, I think I recognize you from various Canadian reptile related boards. I am in the same shoes as you! I do private reptile rescue and someone surrendored an arg. tegu to me in the beginning of march and I found my way here in search of more information. He came to me with neural problems, in addition to mbd, aggression issues (due to abuse and neglect) and dietary problems.

My tegu is now doing quite well and growing at an astronomical rate... lol and I have this forum and its contributors to thank. I have since decided to keep an eye out of a second arg. b&w tegu for my existing one (and because they are so cool!) Welcome to the site and its awesome to see more canadians!

this place is a great resource

Thanks for the warm welcome, everybody! I've been learning a lot, just reading, and this forum has helped me tremendously.

Platypus; we offer exotic pet sitting as one of our fundraising efforts. We would love to take care of your Tegu when you require a babysitter. I know it's difficult to find people to care for exotics while you're away.

Ahh poop guys. Thanks so much for the offer...or I guess complies but I've already left home. I'm in edmonton now (funny enough....and I'll be driving through Calgary tomorrow) I left Dozer in the care of a friend of my boyfriends. He had iguanas in his family when he was younger so he knows the basics and Dozer was very calm around him. I think that maybe it is better that she will be staying in her own enclosure so she can just dissapear and relax for a while. I think that the 8 hour drive would be stressful.
So thanks for the support Canadians! It makes me feel not so much alone anymore!
