I have been teaching my Tokay that hands are not food and no treat. The way I have been doing it works great and now i can pick him up he wont even open his mouth. I can rub his back but he still dose not like it when I rub his head.
What I have been doing step by step.
-Make a flat hand (cuz he will try to bite at 1st and a flat hand gives him nothing to grab onto.)
-lower it over top of him
-rap your finger around him pick him up
-open your hand back to flat (keep your hand close to the tank floor he may decide to jump, he may walk off, or he may open his mouth and vocalize LET HIM!)
-Place him back into his tank
-Repeat (after doing this for a while but only when you feel comfortable start petting the tokay getting him use to human interaction)
After doing this for about 2 weeks he lets me pick him up with out any posturing. I have been doing these exercises for the past 6 months and since passing the 1st 2 weeks I have only been bitten once. Which is a lot better then my old average of almost every time i even put my hand in the tank...lol
