Hello

I'm new to the forums here, I stumbled across them and I just loved all the information I found.

I have a Black & White Argentine Tegu, named Akiva shes somewhere around 3 years old, not sure on that one. She is pretty friendly, unless she is hungry... I'll get some pictures up soon.

We built her a custom cage, its worked out pretty well, except I tried to put a liner in it so the moisture would stay in and she is tearing it to shreds. So... I might have to re-think that if I ever empty all the dirt again. Right now shes in that repti-dirt stuff that comes in a brick and you let it expand, she likes it I suppose, I want to make it deeper for her to burrow. The door on the cage is mesh, she likes to climb it... and fall of. haha. I've tried to stop her but she likes it... what can I do.

Its technicly my husbands pet, but he left for the Air force so its mine to take care of now..

Anyway, I have found lots of good information on here, the best forums I've found for reptiles, and specificly tegus! icon_biggrin.gif

Hi Kat.Welcome to the Tegu forum ( family ).It is nice to have you on board. The mulch you have sounds like it is the coconut bark.If you want to keep using it make sure you keep the humidity up because if the mulch is dry the Tegu can breath in the fine dust and it wouldn't be good for his lungs. If you want to wich is cheaper, too, you can go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy a big bag of Cypress mulch NOT CEDAR.Cedar is Toxic.
A nother thing you can do if you want to is get some linoleum liner for the enclosure. It looks like tiles but it comes in one big sheet so you don't have to worry about any gabs and water getting between it or having to grout some ceramic tiles.Hope that helps.Good luck and please tell your husband hi from us and thank you for serving our country.God bless him ( and you for being strong and standing by his side.I know living a military life style is not easy ).
