Hey,
I'm really interested in getting a breeding pair.. as the only geckos you can seem to get around here are leos

Anyone got any knowledge on them from personal experience or just reading?

I've heard they're real nasty.. but surely if bought as a hatchling and plenty of handling like anything it will get tame

and I've heard the noises they can make, there pretty darn loud and nasty.. but do they simmer down?

Any help/info would be appreciated.

Im thinking of buying two from www.exotic-pets.co.uk

Tokays are very nasty and take a lot of work they have a natural instinct as soon as you pick them up they open there mouth and sometimes bark. They are also nocturnal so they sleep all dayif you decide to get one akesure you get him/her a home that has a way for you to get him/her out. My tokay's home only has one exit and with his sticky pad feet he prys himself up in there and just barks. I have heard of people tameing there tokays it just takes a lot of time and patience.

The barking, is it loud? or is it just quiet and annoying?

My tokay is running around his cage He will chase after anything that is in his cage. But for some reason when/if you catch him... he is such a baby open hand petting you can even rub his nose. but if your hand is in his cage he will bite you so quick...lol[/code]

i have 3 tokays 2 females and a male.. one of my females u can reach right in the cage and grab her.. shes never bit me. but the male will , the other female just runs and barks.. i got them from a friend that had them for a year or so.. but they are great pets.. their bark is not that loud.. kinda sounds like a dogs chew toy haha.. if they do bite and wont let go put them under water they will let go in about 3 seconds.. but other then that they are really cool animals.

I recently bought a Tokay. Not sure on the sex yet. It's name is Devil lol. They are VERY mean. And the barking isn't very loud. If you've ever heard a Leo vocalize it's similar to that but louder. Not loud enough to be really annoying but loud enough to let you know it's mad.

When I reach in to attempt to pick it up it mainly just jumps and barks. It only attempts to bite me when I actually touch it. You can eventually tame a Tokay, it just takes VERY long to build up the trust. Of course it would be a lot easier if you're starting with a baby.
