Does anyone use reptile carpet in their Tegu's enclosure and if so would you recommend it icon_question.gif

I am considering using this in one half of Louie's housing and leaving the other end chips so he has somewhere to burrow.

I personally don't use it for my tegu. I have used it for a beardie before though and I'll tell you one thing, it doesn't hold humidity AT ALL. If you're only using it for half then I guess there wouldn't be any problems but I'm not 100% sure.

The only place I would use it, is at the basking spot, but it's a bit unnecessary because you can take some big rocks. icon_exclaim.gif

Also, the carpet can broke the nails of the reptile icon_confused.gif

I use to do the same thing with my beardie, but it's only for his baby/juvenile period. When they are not mature, the beardies are very curious and taste/touch everything with their tongue (causing dangerous impaction). When he/she will be an adult I will put sand and feed him/her into another tank. icon_biggrin.gif

I use shavings for mine, you can get them for free or cheap prices in furniture business and it's very soft so they can digg very deep without any problem. If you want some ask for non pine shavings. icon_wink.gif

No, because the Tegu have to dig, it's part of his nature. If he lived in a Tank without nothing to dig (for hiding) he will be much more nervous. I tried the experience with snakes and lizards, they always want to find something to dig, so they go under the carpet. icon_sad.gif

good luck! icon_biggrin.gif
