ok so i'm new to the tegu world, i've been researching for a long time on this site learning as much as i can, i'm hopefully going to get one soon . i know this question has most likely been answered once or 30 times before, but i have yet to find it. Is it ok to keep 2 tegus in a cage together? it may be a simple question...but still deserves an answer none the less.

Hi alecboobie.Welcome to the Tegu forum family.I heard about a lot of members having two or more Tegus together. But I'm sorry to say that I can't help you on that one ,on how to do it.I have two arg. b/w Tegus and they are just a few months old.I'm trying to put them together, too. The only problem so far is that the one ( Leonidas ) we got in Oct.07 was 2 1/2 weeks old is bigger now than the one ( Zeus ) we got in Dec 07 who was already a few months old is smaller now because he was hibernating until yesterday. We have to feed him for a while until he is a little bit bigger before I introduce them to each other.Good luck with finding one that you like.

i would know a bit about this. i have a arg. and col. in the same cage. i have my female col. and male arg. living together in a 6/3/2 cage and they have no problem with each other. so id say its possible but u just gotta watch them for a while and see how they react to each other _________________ 0.1.0 Colombian Tegu

I'm surprised no one discussed feeding. They can be voracious when feeding, especially after hibernation, and you need to be very careful to keep them separated. Little ones chasing crickets might grab a toe or tail tip. Big ones fighting over a rat or a chunk of bananna can really do some serious damage and trying to separate two in a death grip can be a real hazard.
I have a bunch of big ones together in a pretty big enclosure and generally they get along fine. I am top heavy with males, and I don't see any combative behavior between them, even with my females in there too.
Good luck.
Thanks a lot for all the feedback , i plan on getting two females. it might take a while due to the wonderful lack of money but thats how life goes. but thanks again for the feedback, its nice to finally find a forum where people actually help out.

I have been waking up Zeus every day now for the past 4 days.He will bask for a while but he will not eat.Since he is sooooo small I will force feed him some chicken, gravy baby food tomorrow with some vitamin and calcium powder so he will not get dehydrated.
alecboobie. How is your Tegu doing ? hope he is doing better now.
