Is anyone on here from No-Cal that has some tips on keeping the humidity at healthy levels for an Arg. B&W short of misting 3 bottles of water a day in there?
P.S. If you live in the Auburn to Garden Valley area, that would just be swell. _________________ Yes, that is my name.
howdy, i live in the north-bay, and believe me, it's damn impossble. i don't know if my hygrometers are broke, but i can't get above 55% on a good day. what i do is i have about 4" of coconut fiber (coir) dirt it's the stuff that comes in bricks. i run a humidifier in my room, burns through about 2 gallons every 24 hours. i pour about a litre of water into the dirt on the sunning side every other day and mist once a day.
i read that if you can't get the humidity right, if the burrow is allways moist your doing good. what i did is filled his den with moss from a pet store and drilled a bunch of small holes in the roof of the den then i pour water into the den, when he's eating and not sleeping, so his den is allways moist. just make sure the hotside is super hot. that'll evaporate the water off enough to keep the humidity up enough....atleast i hope so.
dude i live in san diego, this is what you need and it cost less than ten bucks at home depot, keeps my humidity super high and it takes less than a minute
I feel your pain on the humidity. Mine is way too low, my temps are high and I am constantly soaking the mulch a couple times a day. I need to get a top or my cage but its so hard with all the lights. I cant wait till shes big enough to come out of the aquarium and I can build her a big cage that opens from the side.
see my gallery pics ,look at my hide easy to mantain can be pulled out for easy access without the contents falling out and holds humidity ?cost 5 bucks
its so good, people spend 20 bucks on a tiny spray bottle at the pet shop cuz it has a zoo med label or something when you can get a real tool like this for so cheap
i bought a fogger to create a good humidity % but wouldnt get anywere past 45% which really made me think what a waste of money that was buying this, i was therefore left to buy a good water pumping spraying and soak the substate every day, i was wood bark, which is water retaining substrate, and is too big for him to eat, less mucky to work with, and doesnt get my tegu lavered in crap, specially when dirt gets dusty when dry, he seems to like what i use, anyways what ive dont with my tank was drilled a 60mm pefect hole in the top left of my tank right were the basking light is, and installed an 80mm pc fan on the outside, meaning that this would pull fresh air into the enclosure and not pull hot air out,now what ive found that works best is when you have the fogger on a timer at certain intervals such as 15 minutes every 2-3 hours like say, i have the fan on the same timer as the fogger, meaning they both come on at the very same time and of at the very same time, with this the way i have it, its for 1 circulating aor around the tank, meaning no stale smell of heat or other smells, and is also blowing fog around the tank, meaning it mists all around the tank, blowing moisture of the fogger around the place, i now get my humidity at a very good 75% with this setup, and i never have problems with this now, it doesnt even bother my tegu MAX he seems to be nice and chilled at times every when theres fog moving around his head, he just chills on his basking spot and enjoys the nice breeze and warmth of the light,
give this a try, it worked for me and i have an enclosure of 5ftx3ftx2ft high, hope this helps others,
