I use a ReptiSun 5.0 bulb for the primary UVB source. I just read on another forum that you should use a 10.0? I thought that was too high? Any opinions on this? Also if you could reply with your lighting setup and preferences that would help!

Thank you! He is a beautiful pain in my butt daily! I have heard that the 10.0 can actually cause burns but maybe that has to do with distance from your reptile. I guess we'll have to wait for more replies! _________________ ~Tango's Mom~

I think a lot of the harm issue has to do with the distance from your UVB bulb to the basking area. I use a 10.0 bulb because they are good for up to 20 inches away, my custom built beardie enclosure is 24 inches high. The 5.0 bulb is good for UVB up to 12 inches, if I used it, I would have to build a 12 inch high basking area just to meet the farthest away point for him to catch UVB. I use the 10.0 on my tegu also, her enclosure is 18 inches high(she is a hatchling), she can bask on the substrate if she wanted to and she would still be catching some uvb. I hope this helps clear some things up!
... also, the burn issue, I read a study that the compact reptisun 10.0 could cause problems but the strip bulb was perfectly ok. I tried to search for the article but could not find it. It was very informative, I came across it when I was doing some research for my beardie enclosure. If I find it, ill post a link.

Thats about what I thought, the distance was the issue. Well the setup I have now uses the 5.0 but the new cage I'm building will probably need the 10.0 bulb then. I have never used to compact ones either but am interested in hearing from anyone who has. Thank you both for your replies! _________________ ~Tango's Mom~
