I have placed a litter box in my b&w's enclosure and have been starting training him. It's been a very slow process but i hit a break through today! The other day he was out of his cage and was starting to use the bathroom and i caught him and put him in the litter box.(I have read that about how to litter box train dogs, don't ask). He resented it but when I walked in today he had actually used the bathroom in it. I am so excited! It actually was possible!Yea!!!

That is too cool.I tried doing that before and as soon as I saw Leonidas butt move I picked him up to put him in the litter box (that I kepped next to me all the time when he free roamed) but he pooped on my foot.If he does it again do you think you can make a video of it ? PLEASE.Thank you.I do would like to know how you did it icon_rolleyes.gif icon_wink.gif .Congrats on training your Tegu on how to use the litter box icon_wink.gif .Job well done.

I don't think it really has to do with them knowing the litter box is where they need to use the bathroom...I think they just go in the same spot...because last week I let my tegu free roam and he took a dump on my carpet and I cleaned it up and today he was free roaming and took a crap in the exact same place...And he also only craps in one spot in his tank...

Lucky for you.I always have to keep my eyes on Leonidas because he poops where ever he wants to.To me it seems like that he holds it until I let him free roam because I haven't seen any poop in his enclosure any more.I have been taking him and Zeus ( they both are baby b/w arg.Tegus ) out side on a reptile leash so they can bask in the sun and free roam a little bit and sometimes they poop out side.I love that part.I don't have to clean up after them but thank God for the hardwood and tile floors icon_lol.gif .

My litter is a substrate i use for my geckos... Before that sounds weird it is a substrate i special order and there is only one place on the east coast to get it( I cant remember what the company is ) It is a clay based kind of walnut like substrate that is ok to ingest it. I didnt want cat litter because im afraid he would eat it it...dont ask. but also my substate contains alot of odor and kind of keeps heat...
