Hi!
I got my first black and white tegu yesterday..I've give him time to calm down and such and today i started to try to get him to be more comfortable with me..I have found out that if i rub the top of his head and his back he starts to fall asleep!
Any comments?...anyone see anything like that before?

I love my tegu, she is so pretty..I'm still thinking of names..any ideas?

thanks everyone icon_biggrin.gif

I've had my tegu since last summer but no name has come to me yet. I guess I could call him "The Hibernator" because that's what he was for 7 months.

The rubbing the back thing is pretty cool. I've had mine do the same several times before.

I don't know if he/she likes it, but you have a good advantage now, think about it. icon_idea.gif

If everytime you handle her, and you pet him/her everytime on the head... you will calm him/her easily, result = good trust, easier to tame.

For the name, what I do, is to name my reptile with a different language adjective. icon_wink.gif

Example: I named my Bearded Dragon Uresaii (which mean Happy in Japanese) because he has such a happy and kind face.
The best thing would be to name your Tegu with a quality, caracteristic or behavior that he/she has.

good luck! icon_biggrin.gif

Hi herpgirlx03.Welcome to the Tegu forum family and congrats on your new Tegu. You are very lucky that you have a Tegu that likes to be handled already. Most people have to let there Tegu settle in for like 1 or 2 weeks.I have done the petting on the head and back thing with both of my Tegus from day one and they still love it.A lot of times one of my Tegus keeps jumping against the screen top until I take him out and lay down on the couch with him and when I start to rub his head and back he goes to sleep and takes a nap with me.My other Tegu likes that, too, but he doesn't jump around the enclosure like that ( yet ).About the name part I always look for unique names. Our Tegus names are Leonidas and Zeus. Our frilled Dragon is Venus.I really like that name for a female.
