i have had my tegu reptar for like 6 mounths and he still isnt tame he gets lil crazy never snaped tho. what can i do to help tame him like on the vids on youtube? please help guys. i let him out once in my room and he ate right by me but he was skidish. he doesnt like to be pic up and i no i pic he up right. he lets me hold him for about 30 sec's till he gets pissed.
I have got my first tegu and after reading posts on this site what I did was put a shirt that I was wearing into the tank so that he gets familiar with my cent, also I started off slowly, first I kept my hand by him on the outside of the tank after that I got him use to my hands near him in the tank then when I tought he was ready I picked him up and handled him,I think the more you handle him the better he will become as long as you dont stress him out,Im new with tegus but I hope this helps

Hi Olen.I handled both of my Tegus from day one.As soon as you pick up Reptar try to pet him really slow on the head. Most of them like that a lot. What I did is I put on two shirts. The outside one should be a darker one so it keeps it dark for him when he hides in between the two shirts.Tuck the shirts in your pants ( that's for him not to fall out and get hurt ) and put him in between the shirts. That way he can hide, stays warm and he gets to smell you and becomes more comfortable with you.Or you can lay down on the couch like that and let him go to sleep on you and you can try to pet him from on top the shirt.Mine loves it so much that if I don't take her out to take our afternoon nap she throws a fit in her enclosure ( he already free roamed for like two hours) .As soon as we lay down on the couch he goes to sleep.Hope that helps. Please keep us posted on how things are going. Thanks and good luck.
