hey everybody I just purchased a tegu about a week ago and he's about 3 feet long. at the moment he is in a 4.5 vision cage, but he needs bigger. Im planning on building him an 8x2x2. I want to make the enclosure out of melamine boards so that moisture isn't a problem. Do any of you have links to plans for something like that? I'm sure I could do it myself, but I would love to see some other examples of something along those lines?
My previous cage was made of melamine and it was indeed very nice. The only problems I can remember were that material is very heavy and it's rather pricey. If you don't plan on moving it very often, then it shouldn't be a problem. It's very easy to clean, keeps the moisture in very well, and is very sturdy. I would say that 8x2x2 might be on the small end (width wise) though for an adult, as your boy is already 3 feet long . Boamaster sells melamine cages that are very nice and pretty competitive for the quality. You might be able to get some ideas from looking at the cages on their website. Good luck.
