umm, grox just ate the impeller off a submersable pump, i tried to stop him but as soon as he saw me going for him he scarfed it down.

it was very small, for a tiny fluval pump, but impellers are a magnetic cilinder with a metal rod and plastic prop. not exactly inert.

what do i do? should i give him a bunch of coconut so he passes it faster?

i'm friggan worried.

activa, ok i'll go get some now.

what about a dog or cat laxitive? most are meat flavored so i bet he'd eat it. ispecially if it was fish flavored. i think he goes all retarded around my pumps cause fish is his favorite food.

i'd hate to think what would happen if he ever got near my turtles.

I'm sorry to hear what happened. How big is Grox and how big is the pump ? do you have some pics I could look at.Leonidas ate some mulch before and not to long ago a rock and he pooped it out.Angelrose is right.I would give him some activia. Please keep us posted.Thanks.Oh,a nother thing you can do is give Grox a short warm bath and gently massage his stomach. That helped with mine.Good luck.Oh,a nother thing. Please keep a eye on his vent.If he gets impacted he will wiggle his body side to side ( big time ) when he is trying to poop and his vent will stick out.If you see that the vent sticks out let me know and I'll give you the name of the medicine that my vet gave me when Leonidas was impacted to put on his vent.So you don't have to pay for a vet visit just the medicine. The medicine was about $30.

here, i'll add some pics, the first is the pump he took the impeller out of. the deep part with the metal rod is where the impeller went, i guess he diden't eat the rod then so he just ate a magnet and plastic prop.
the second is him next to my hand, compair the two shoeld give a good idea of relitive sizes.
the third is a picture of an impeller

I don't want to scare you but to be honest with you I'm worried about the green part because it has those things sticking out.Other than that I would say that since he is so big already he wouldn't have a problem pooping that part out.Our Leonidas is about the same size and he just pooped out a big rock a few days ago.Does he still eats and poops normal ? how does his vent look like ( normal ) ? before you open the link I want to warn you that it is VERY GRAPHIC.Sorry.Trust me I don't like seeing those kind of photos either.Leonidas was impacted before, too, because I fed him in his enclosure and that's what I had to do with the baby food, baths ......

well, about an hour after he ate that he ate a kingworm and an entire talapia fillet. the talapia allways seems to digest into really soft poo, so i figured it'd help buffer his guts from the impeller. the impeller he ate had slightly smaller propeller blades than the one in the pic. but still big enough to worry me.

i put out a dish with a thing of blueberry activa yoghurt so hopefully he'll eat that too.

i also have acidopholus pills i could sprinkle on his food, as it's the same stuff thats in the yoghurt should i put that on the talipia?

he got an impaction from coconut coir before so i know what the ass wiggling looks like, when he passed it it was 2-3x the size of the impeller so i know he can pass something that size.

i just hope he doesn't get near anything iron as he swallowed a large magnet.

thanks for all the help, as you can see i finally got a new camera so i'll keep you guys posted on anything that happens.

Your welcome.Any time.I wouldn't recommend sprinkling any of that acidophilus pills on his food because we don't know how much he would need of that stuff. It could happen that you might give him to little ( than it wouldn't do any thing ) or to much ( and it could make things worse ).Did you read the above link ? when Leonidas was impacted because of the mulch ( Reptile Bark ) the vet told me,too, not to feed him any solid foods just the baby food and it worked great.I didn't use a dropper.I got a syringe ( with out the needle ) I thought that would work better. Thanks for keeping me ( us posted ).

ohh, i diden't even see that link!

thanks! i have droppers, so i'll start an oil and soaking regimin, i think i could get my boy to eat the oil no prob, he's obsessive over anything that smells like an aquarium. a few drops of water from my plant tank in the oil should have him slurping it up.

It takes a few days for him to pass it down his stomach. When Leonidas was impacted he first stoped eating and when he tried to poop he did that wiggly thing I told you about. He pooped out the repti bark 5 days later. It took him about a nother 5 days for him to get back to normal.Does his vent still look normal ? just keep giving him the baths. Thanks for keeping me posted icon_wink.gif .

i'm looking into getting decomposed granite and soil as a new substrate. as my cypress mulch has woodmites BAD like thousands of em!!

proexotics uses a decomposed granite and soil mix for there monitors and it holds burrows well aparently.

yea, he's getting a 90 degree bath everyday till he passes the damn thing.

he hates baths. it's like giving a cat a bath.
