hi, as i live in north cali we have an abundance of redwood trees and thus lots of cheap bags of redwood mulch.
do you think redwood contains phenols? would it irritate my tegu? it's really fluffy, redwood shred's kinda weird. it's soft. but kinda dusty. how do you think it'd put up with the constant misting?
if redwood don't work i'm giving up on mulch and going with a decomposed granite soil mix as i can't find any good mulch around here.
cypress is like an alien word around here.
i have wood mites they're driving me crazy! i don't like inedible bugs in my tanks!! _________________ 1.1.0 Arg B/W Tegu Joker n Groxy

nope, just looked around, for em. i can't find an appropriate mulch for the life of me, plus redwoods are evergreens so i'm not going to risk it.
what we do have locally is sandy loamy clay type loam which is what i'm going to have to use. i've set up an apptment with a quarry so i can figure out a good mix.
i'm giving up on mulch. _________________ 1.1.0 Arg B/W Tegu Joker n Groxy

cypress mulch is getting a little hard to get here as well. I used to get a huge bag of it at home depot and lately they have been shipping it down to the flooded areas
so now I use cypress but mix it with about 1/3 organic top soil and that works well for burrowing. perhaps you can mix it up.
true, i think i can still get the super expensive zoo med stuff from the pet stores, and just add a bit to the loam for burrow stability and surface area for humidity. _________________ 1.1.0 Arg B/W Tegu Joker n Groxy

angelrose.Have you ever tried to use eucalyptus mulch ? I just changed to that kind of mulch.I got some 100 % natural organic brown mulch.I like it.So I went back to get some more and they were out of the brown one. They just had the black and red one.I wasn't to sure if I should use the red one but since it said that it is 100 % natural I thought I get it.But it looks like that I have to change it because Leonidas is all red now .
LOL good to know! _________________ 1.1.0 Arg B/W Tegu Joker n Groxy
