Well, I've not stopped in at this one paticular shop in a while, but today when I got there and did my stroll around to see what he had. I saw one on alphapha pellets wiggling strangly on the floor. I got up closer and see there is a trail of something from his clocia. A closer look and I think its his dried, swoollen and staring to blacken up hemi penis. I was in absolute shock. I ask the gal at the shop how long has he been like this? She replys about since wed or maybe monday. Today is Sunday!
Well, to make a long story short. I asked her to call the owner and ask if he will surrender the great looking Tegu to me and let me see if I can get it taken care of. Most likely be spending money to have surgery to fix the problem though. I will be picking the guy up tomorrow and until I can get in to see a vet. I will soak him in warm water with brown sugar added and a tad bit of betadine for antiseptic purposes. I hope that will at least keep any infection from setting in and ease the pain fromt he swelling.
I will let you all know how it turns out, once i get it rolling.

Hi Ed.Welcome back.I haven't seen you on the forum for a while.God bless your heart.Thank you for taking care of him.I saw that before, too, that a pet store didn't take care of the Tegu.I even brought in my own mulch and told him that he should check out this forum to get some infos on how to take care of the Tegu.I wanted to get him but they wouldn't go down in the price or give me the number to the manager.I never seen a manager there for except once and by that time the Tegu was gone.I told them that I would report them but when my boyfriend and I felt so bad for the Tegu and wanted to get him he was gone.At least your store will give him to you.Good luck with every thing and thanks for keeping us posted.Take care.

Actually, I'm surprised that they turned it over to you. It seems so many stores see tegus as money-makers. Keep us posted!
As a side note, I went to an expo yesterday and saw a few young tegus. I think there were 3 booths with hatchlings. Two looked great, but a third was iffy. I walked down the row and could see the baby Argentines nosing around the aspen with wrinkled skin from dehydration and their little hip bones showing. No green either...odd. The Colombians were super-skinny. Monitors were stuck into clear boxes that were half their total length. They were all curled inside and had nose rubs.
There were quite a few underconditioned yearlings at the show, too, and the only adult I saw was a Paraguay with spinal curvature.
I really don't find tegus that hard to care for, but like any reptile, they do have very specific needs. _________________ Laura R (FL)

in fact, yesterday i went to this guys house and i noticed he was keeping a skink. i dunno too much about skinks, but i know that it was freezing in his tank, there was no water, and two of his toes were missing. I told him it would probably be best if i took the skink, and he had no problem with that. But, strangely, his wife was another story... "the kids love it" ... yeah, okay lady. I gave a lesson on heat and humidity, but im sure they werent paying attention

It would be nice if there is some one that works for the city ( like the health department that checks out restaurants ) to make sure the animals are being taking care of and if not they are being reported.I have seen some pet stores, too, that don't take care of the animals and it makes me sick to my stomach.Good luck with him Ed.
Corn-ball.I hope that they will give you the skink.

In our state, it's supposed to be the job of the FWC to regulate reptiles, and Animal Control (Animal Services, etc), for overall stuff).
I don't know what it takes. We have a really bad one around the corner from us that has great fish, but they have a dehydrated ball python right now that would make you cry. His skin is all pinched together and he obviously has a bad shed stuck in places. I heard one guy that is the 'reptile guy' say he just came back after being an assistant manager at Petco. Lord have mercy! _________________ Laura R (FL)

Ok, thanks for the compliments all even though its not needed, but very much appreciated.
Today, we went and saw Dr Greek and he took a look at his prolapse that was going on and said. " Oh thats not good" But let me see what we can do with this. He took him in the back office/operation room and about 9 minutes later shows up with him and say, all is good and he managed to get his intestines all lined back up inside of the little guy and stiched his cloacial up shut for the next 7 days. Put him on anti biotics for the next 2 weeks.
As soon as I get a chance I will post a shot of "Mr Lucky" now. He has a name now that he is going to make it though.
Have a great night all.
