i use it in a hide. the fungus, used to be kinda common infecting old people who gardened with cuts on their hands or somesuch. but honestly their's no info saying the fungus does anything to reptiles, only humans. also all moss is now treated for that specific fungus,

also, the real problem with sphhagnum moss is that it can come back to life. it's full of viable spores, so with that full spectrum lighting/good humidity ect. if the sphagnum lives again it'll start pulling all the alkaloids out of the dirt and water in the tank and turn everything acidic. they say it'll actually turn standing water to a weak vinegar.

i have a hide full of sphagnum, i used it. honestly if you can get cypress it's better for a hide. the sphagnum dries out kinda quick. my hatchling has a corner of his 40 gal tank with a pile of sphagnum, he enjoys digging through it.

basicly, if your worried about the fungus, don't use it. to be safe, if either one of my tegus ever gets an open wound i'd pull out all of my sphagnum moss. better safe than sorry, their's no data that says reptiles CAN"T get it eather.

also, the moss uses the alkoloids for growing, so as long as you don't actually see fresh new growth on your moss. you're fine.
