When they start maturing sexualy. My year old has the good beginings of what look to be big jowls. They're starting to spread from his head when he rests it and they make his head look like a big triangle when he lifts it to investigate stuff.

The red I just bought is a 2007 male and he has little jowls starting up. When he gets disturbed and swallows air to puff up, his jowls get even bigger and hard. I don't expect them to get really big for another year yet. He has little cloaca buttons, too.
