Hi, my apartment is really not big enough for the standard size enclosure witch is 8x4, I was wondering if 6x2 or 5x2 is good enough for the tegu. Thanks!

I'm not sure if there is a "standard" enclosure, probably a prefered... and I'd be suprised if most have their tegus living in an 8X4 in their homes or apatrments. That said, give your tegu the largest cage you can, lots of care and in the end I'm sure he'll be fine.

Also, be sure you account the width of your doorways. If you need to move it around from one room to another or if you want to move to a new place.

I suggest you do something like 6'Lx3'Dx30"H. This should last you awhile before he/she outgrows it. Most doorways are about 31", so you should be able to slide it out on it's side.

This is just my 2 cents icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the info on this. I'll just stick with what I'm gonna build (6 feet long 2 feet wide and 3 feet high) I think that should be fine for him.

Personally, I think width is more important over height. If they do not hibernate they can grow to about 3Ft. within a year. This is why I think it is more important to give him/her space to turn around in as oppose to the height being 3'.

But again, this is just my 2 cents icon_smile.gif

Good luck either way!

also, you might think about an enclosure that can be tore down with some ease. i'm designing an enclosure for my savannah monitors that will be 8'x4'x4', but will be built such that the largest piece i have to move will be a 4'x4' sheet of plywood. move it into the space you want it, build it, and do whatever else (seal it, etc), and throw dirt in!

Thank you for pointing that out for me and I'm sure my new tegu will be fine. My plan is that I'm gonna build an enclosure for my new tegu and new ball python, tegu on the botton and python on top its gonna be really cool once I get the money to build it lol.
