Many of you might know this, but I figured I would post it anyway.

I was wondering if anyone uses the "observing them going to the bathroom" technique to sex their tegus.

Along time ago, I read that you could sex monitors by watching them go to the bathroom. The males sex organs would pop out during this. Well, I noticed last week when Smokey was going to the bathroom that this long, red, licorice looking thing popped out of him. Ergo, he is a definite male.

Anyway, I'm not sure if there is an age that you have to wait till. Smokey is almost 1 year old and I just noticed this last week.

Also, if your tegu is that old, don't worry about missing it. If you watch him go to the bathroom, you can't miss it.

Also, I was wondering if others have heard of this "observation" technique and if anyone else utilizes it.

Rob

Hi Rob, I actually saw it before I read about it.

in and around the age of 24 months of a tegu you will notice larger jowls for a male and also he will be leaving you sperm plugs.

here is an example of the sperm plugs

Hello angelrose.....Smokey is about a year and his jowls are already coming in. Especially, when he is resting his head on the ground. Here is a pic of the big fatty lol icon_lol.gif
