Tegus love to burrow. They will often dig down under the substrate in the evening and return to the top in the morning to afternoon. They can breath under the substrate fine, no worrys.

Lady burrows throughout her enclosure on a daily thats how I know if she likes any changes to her enclosure. Almost every time I clean her enclosure I will put in a new rock or something. If she does not care for it or its location she will burrow around and under it until it is laying on top sometimes upside down. Lady's enclosure is the center piece to my living room so when their are guest over she will burrow to the front of the glass and you can see her watching to see whats going on.... she is a cutie.

Just a little bit of useless dribble I am sooooooo happy I just bought lady a new leash she is going to go nuts when she goes outside. I also found her treats so I am going to start training her using her treats so she doesn't feel so threatened when other people come around.

My tegus also like to 'rearrange' the decor in their enclosure. I guess I never get anything right where they want it. icon_razz.gif

I remember when I first got mine, trying different bits of wood, rocks etc in the enclosure, most of which were rejected into one corner by Dobbie. He simply didn't like them. As for burrowing, I use a large piece of tree bark for his hide, and he simply pushed half the substrate into it and bury himself then.
