I have had my tegu for about a month now and I cannot find any cypress mulch. I was wondering if oak leaves are a good substrate because he seems to like burrowing in them and they are abundant were I live. If not could you please tell me an alternitive substrate that I could use.
also, not relevant to tegu housing but is rehab ralphy permenantly banned? The reason I ask is that he gave good information and had excellent cage tutorials.

Where do you live?? We buy cypress at the local Agway. If there's one near you they may have it or you could order some.

He's been banned here for over a year. I think he's been banned from a few forums. He's had some personal problems recently. He has some more recent posts at the other Tegu forum (hint, hint, nudge, nudge.). I just don't think oak leaves will hold humidity properly. It might be a 'try and see' thing, if you have a digital hygrometer. Personally, I would search for a better alternative...eucalyptus, orchid bark, not pine or cedar. _________________ Laura R (FL)
