Thanks for the welcome. I have some good pics I will post soon. My tegu is a male red named Rufus. I've only had him for about 2 weeks and he was born sometime around 7/19/08 according to Varnyard's site. So far he's pretty stand offish but he is already getting used to my hand. Today he walked over it and tried to burrow under it with his nose. He freaks a little when I try to touch him but I think thats because I've been trying to lightly touch the base of his tail and his back legs.

Mine doesn't like it to much either when I pet him there. When I do that he sticks his butt up in the air.I don't do it allot. It just happens when he is under the blanket and I stroke my hand over his body.Allot of Tegus like to be petted on they're heads or gently rubed on the neck.Mine go to sleep when I do that.

hello, I'll tell ya I have been doing alot of moving around, making more room and shipping. you know bubbasherps/Jeff is taking care of my gravid female 'Bella' for me in hopes of eggs (fertile) soon. Jeff is excellent and knows far more about incubation and care than me. I'm learning so much more.

Cali King, I am still working with so it's a little hard to get a good pick of him. but, I feel it will be soon.

I have four tegus left now. Angel, Scrappy, Big G and Cali and things are starting to settle now. sooooo, I am back and will update pics to follow shortly icon_smile.gif

Rufus has got to the point where today I got to pet him about 3 times. He will crawl all over mine hand in the cage but doesn't trust me enough to be picked up yet.

I am trying my best just to take it slow with him but I'm terrified that he will hibernate and forget all the hard work lol! He is actually really trusting. He got out 2 days ago in a misguided handling attempt on my part. I don't really know how to explain how I got him back, but I literally talked him into walking into a bucket so i could put him back. Either he understood that I wasn't trying to hurt him or I'm just delusional icon_wink.gif

I have some pics in my album but I will post them in the appropriate forum. Again thanks everybody for the warm welcome, you've made this a wonderful experience thus far.

I'm glad that you like this forum as much as we do.If you want to you can try one of the shirt tricks.Put on a long sleeve shirt ( like a hoody or sweat shirt ) put your hand up side down and pull the sleeve over your hand.Put the opening of the sleeve in front of him and while you pat him a little bit gently push him inside of the opening. That way you will be his hide now and he will feel save and you get to pat him and you don't have to worry about him falling or you having to hold him tight and maybe scare him.It worked great with both of our Tegu's.Good luck.
