I really want to purchase a hatchling Argentine BW, but I'm home for the summer with my parents and won't be moving back into my Apartment until Mid August, do you think a 40 gallon tank would be sufficient for that time period. I work at a PetCo, so I can get just about everything I need for free. Gotta love big Corporations who throw away tons of perfectly good stuff. Just the other day I got a free 50 gallon aquarium because the hood was damaged haha. Anyways I look forward to our expertise. Also, Does anyone know of any good sites that have plans for 8ft terrariums. I'd like to build my Tegu a custom enclosure but I'm hesitant to just set after wood with power tools and no plan haha.
heh.... I always have these crazy ideas when I do shit without any plans and for some reason they always come out better, than when I go with plans, but thats just me.
I used to work at petco over in Portsmouth NH, I ended up quitting since my manager was erm.... nice when you were out of work and everything, but not the nicest person to work for. (ie getting mad for me messing up because she was never specific.)
I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think it would probably work out, as since hatchlings can be kept in a 20gallon Long, and than be moved over to a 55 have you tried to click on helpful info and than check it out the caresheet on them from there?

you're taking home that stuff? you should be RTVing it you know...
I used to work for PetCo too.
a 40 gal works as a starter but plan to upsize quickly. Vision reptile cages are awesome but they cost kind of A LOT. I've seen some cool designs on this web site built out of horse troughs. _________________ Elliot

I'm currently in the planning stages of a 7x3.5x3 enclosure made of plexi or acrylic with a steel frame, 2 sliding doors, and all the lighting wired into the lid with one plug in but separate switches and controls for each light
Bear in mind that acrylic will scratch up horrendously, and if you dont want a milky coloured cage you'll need to replace the sheets eventually. My tegu cage is melamine-faced wood with plexi doors and the plexi is now almost opaque, lol.
A 50gal should theoretically last until mid August if you get a small, young animal, but if it does get too big you will need to upgrade. That may sound obvious, but some tegs grow faster than others For the cage, its dead easy to make a basic wood cage, and there are several plans on the net that I have seen (but alas cant remember the links to). You can even get the wood cut to size so all you need to do is put it all together! It will definitely save you a lot of money, as once you move up to 7/8' long pre-made vivs you start to look at hundreds of pounds/dollars. Alternatively, you can look for something to convert; some people use horse troughs. If you convert something wooden like a closet or something, just bear in mind that it will need to be sealed to stop moisture from seeping into the wood, plus generally made tegu-safe.

I forgot to mention I plan on making the doors out of glass for clear easy viewing
has anyone used the site GlassCages.com before. Their prices are very cheap. Just wondering. Also, would a enclosure 96 x 24 x 25 be good enough for a fully grown Argentine? They sell one for 240 which I find VERY reasonable. Just wondering
