I have a 5 month old female veiled chameleon and whenever I try to handle her or even get slightly near her she hisses and has a fit and trys to bite me. I have tried giving her her favorite food by hand and even turning off the lights and holding her (I have been trying these things for about a month now and the problem hasnt improved). But once the lights are on she just goes back to her usual bitchy self. I was always told to never hold chameleons because they are very sensitive so thats why when I got her as a baby I just left her alone. I guess that was a big mistake. What should I do about this problem? Is it going to be hard to breed her because she is like this? HELP!

I have a small veiled cham as well, but I am afraid I don't know as much about them as I do my tegus. The veiled was something I was given recently and have just started to work with while it's still small.

Yeah and I am the opposite, I know more about chams than tegus, considering I just got my first tegu a little over 2 weeks ago. I was thinking about maybe putting gloves on (that way when she bites it wont hurt) and going in her cage and just slightly putting her on my hand so she just gets used to it. I feel like that is my only option left. Oh well. Good luck with your chameleon =) they are so interesting. Thanks icon_smile.gif

I kept a veiled chams for about 6 years. Make sure you keep your cham in a secluded area...that will help with the "taming" process if thats what your going for. They fewer outside distractions their are the easier time you will have. Personally I avoided handling mine because they stress really easilly and although veiled are one of the hardier chams they still are still quite fragile. The only thing that is going to break your cham of this is patience and time, she will most likely always puff up when you try to handle her (mine did) but you should be able to get her to quite biting. Good luck. They are a fun pet even if they are a lot of work.

I have never bred chams but her attitude towards you shouldn't affect her breeding as long as she is left alone during that time.
