Just as a warning to the members or guests of this community.

There is an ad on Kingsnake today from L&A (Leon) for a pair of adult blue tegus. The female is listed as het for snow and the male is listed as het for albino.

The male is not a blue tegu. It is an Argentine Black & White male, thus not het for albino.

Here is the ad:
http://market.kingsnake.com/detail.php?cat=53&de=475590

I have contacted the seller...

----------------------------
My message to him is....
----------------------------

Leon,

My name is Rick Sisco. I run a tegu community online called The Tegu Community (www.thetegu.com) and I raise and breed tegus (Argentine black and whites, Chacoan black and whites, blue tegus, albino blue tegus, etc) and have 37+ tegus.

The reason I am contacting you is that your ad is incorrect. I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you were misled and not that you are being misleading, but the male you have is not het for albino. The male is not even a blue tegu. It's an Argentine black and white tegu.

If you were misled I would contact whomever you received them from and discuss this with them. If they would like to contact me I would be more than willing to speak with them)

Sincerely,

Rick Sisco

----------------------------

Hopefully he removes or edits the ad, but I wanted to help protect those who read this forum.

Rick

Um, before you guys get too proud of yourselves, maybe you should apologize to the man.

Never in his ad did he ever make any claim to either one of the tegus being a blue.

Secondly, you would have to be an idiot to think that only blues can express albinism.

morthan,

First, no one was being rude to or saying anything poorly about L&A (Leon) that requires an apology. I contacted the person and he replied to me this morning. He was appreciative of the information I supplied him. He has even asked me to contact him so we can discuss tegus, which I will do when I have some time to sit down and chat. To me, his reply speaks clearly about his honestly and character. He got some wrong information and was glad to have the proper information so that he didn't accidentally misinform one of his customers.

Second, in reply to being "an idiot to think that only blues can express albinism". Well, let me reply to you in less rude manner in which you just replied to us..

Fact #1: Albinism has not YET been noted in T.merianae (Argentine Black & Whites), either captive bred or wild caught.

Fact #2: If there was an albino Argentine Black & White out there producing "100% het for albino Argentine Black & White tegus" I think this community would know about it since that would be news worthy, but failing that, the chatter would be all over the web.

I contacted this Leon guy several weeks ago after the first time he posted the ad as I was somewhat interested in the female. He was VERY slow to answer emails and wouldn't/couldn't answer many of my questions. Some of the questions were quite simple like , "What is your last name?" and "Do you have experience shipping live animals?" I finally gave up on him after several emails went completely unanswered. I'd say buyer beware.

Rick I just wanted to thank you for watching out for all the members on this forum and for helping L&A (Leon) out. I appreciate knowing that you are keeping an eye on things even on other sites just because they might affect some of your own members. icon_wink.gif

Hello everyone! I am the guy that had the ad posted on Kingsnake. I am very appreciative of the email I received from Rick. I did not think that it was rude in any way. I am not a dealer, only a hobbyist, and although I have kept many different reptiles over the past years, I am not an expert of any kind. I am always learning. As to the post above from the guy who said he contacted me and was interested in the female, I would like to add a clarification to his post. I do own a business and am not often on the computer, so my wife wrote to him twice giving him my cell number to call me so that I could answer his questions. He never called me. As to the pair of tegus I had posted, I had removed the ad immediately after reading Rick's email. I will probably repost them at a later date and sell them separately. By the way, this is a great site!!

This is NOT fact. This only what you think and would like others to think. It insinuates you know every tegu breeder on planet and every animal they produce, and that you have read each and every documented tegu encounter in english, german, portuguese and spanish: I guarantee you, you do not and have not. Do you know Edmundo Mikhailovich? How about Wilfred Klein? Tobias Wang perhaps? Cynthia Prado?

Albino? Certainly. Blue tegu? Doesn't look like one to me.

I would disagree again. Not everyone into reptiles is in it for the money and fame. A few of my friends have nothing to do with the internet for one. And a number of us are very discerning over who we trade with. Beings as you are such well known breeder and knowledgeable tegu authoritarian, you should able to tell me what breeds I work with. I'll admit, in as much as some of us has tried to find excellent homes for our animals as opposed to supplying stock to wheelers & dealers, we do have little control over what they do them once they leave our hands. All I am suggesting is your knowledge is not absolute.

morthan,

That is indeed a very pretty albino BLUE tegu hatchling, but that still does not help your point in the least bit.

Here are a couple more for your enjoyment..

Obviously, you can't tell one from the other. Our debate is over before it could even really start. You just lost all credibility on the subject in my eyes.

Lionking,

I am glad all was resolved. Removing/editing the ad shows a great amount of professionalism on your behalf. Welcome to The Tegu Community. We are glad you decided to join! icon_smile.gif
