I have an 8 year old Columbian B&W (Joanna). Yesterday she started twitching in her arms and legs. It looks like severe muscle spasms all over her arms and legs including her toes. Its almost like her legs are having little seizures. Can anyone shed some light on what might be happening to her.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi firecar96, maybe it's time for a real good check up at a recommended vet, I learned (the hard way) as soon as you see something out of the norm' - don't wait, catch it as soon as possible. that way you can sleep and your baby will love you for it icon_biggrin.gif

Sounds like MBD, twitching in the limbs is a major symptom to look out for. Get her looked at by a qualified vet.

Hi Steve.Welcome to the Tegu forum family.Sorry to hear that Joanna is not doing to well right now.I'm with meanah and greentriple. It does sound like mbd.Are you giving her enough calcium and vitamine powder ? have you checked your UVB light ( when was the last time you changed your UVB light ) ? some reptile stores check your UVB light for you to let you know if it still gives out enough UVB.I do recommend taking her to a vet. Please keep us posted on how she is doing.Take care and good luck.

I'm so sorry to hear about this problem. I'm no vet, but this sounds like classic "rickets," as they called it in my grandmother's day. Vitamine D deficiency that leads to a loss of calcium in the bones. Our baby had the slightest twitch in one arm when we first got him from the evil reptile store. In addition to supplements, the largest mice he can eat (they have more calcium), and UVB, we found the best thing is real sunshine, which triggers the body to synthesize Vit D. Even in winter, there is usually an hour or two of sunshine in our boy's room. You have to open the window or UV is filtered out. Hernando has a plastic covered exercise mat to bask on and it absorbs heat from the sun, which makes him very cozy. The air temperature may be cold outside, but he stretches out and gets warm and healthy. He's been doing great, even if he only catches a few hours a week.

My Tegu just started twitching a leg too. I've had him for 3 months and he has been growing rapidly. I noticed 3 days ago he was twitching his right leg when walking. I recently purchased a 60 gallon aquarium that is 18 inches in height. I have a 15 inch UVB bulb that was doing a good job in his smaller aquarium. After reading this post I definitely think that is whats going on with my Rampage. I increased the calcium supplements and am going to by zoomeds power sun bulb on friday. I don't have the cash to take him to the vet right now. Any advise would be appreciated.

Calcium fortified babyfood, pheonix worms, and break that piece of shit flourescent bulb over your own head for buying it and get an MVB. Solar-Glo MVB, PowerSun, or MegaRay. Take your pick but get it done.
