I'm not overly concerned yet, but I am getting a little worried.

I've noticed that Sancho's tail has thinned a bit where it connects to his body, almost a slight taper, it then fattens quite well. I also notice his hip bones a bit more when he walks and his belly drops.

He's still very active: flicking tung, and hunting for places to hide. I can't say that he's eating has changed much because he's always been a finicky eater.

He's grown to 41" in 10 months and just went through another shed.

His feces looks normal.

My big one is already asleep, so I can't check, but it seems that she looks like that. Her tail tapers like a waist where it connects to the body, but it's really quite fat.

It sounds like he just went through a tremendous growth spurt! I wonder if he spent a lot of energy growing and doesn't have extra fat reserves at the moment. Kids are like that...they grow taller, then put on weight, then grow taller, then put on weight. I bet he'll put some weight on as his overall growth slows. Keep feeding him a great diet and let him eat until he's full. Also keep an eye on him and a vet check/fecal check could be in order if you're concerned that a problem is persisting. You could always post a pic here, too.

Let's see if this dorsal shot will show up.

Yea, groxy's tail is the same. slight taper where it meets the hips, getting fatter then tapering down to the point.

i gotta measure her. seems bigger every time i see her.

Long as the tail is fat and heavey and if it tappers it is normal and shows a good sign of your tegu being healthy :D and not fed fatty foods.

So sorry but that was the first time I have seen a tegu waring a shirt.

Also some times it can happen from two part shedding were the boby will shed then the tail will shed at separate times but don't worry long as your tegus is growing and and you are feeding him the right diet and going with the right care guidlines your tegu will be fine.

Thanks all. I get concerned because he's so active during the day, digging for hours around his enclosure, basking and then doing laps and he's such a finiky eater. For example he devowered a large mouse, some roaches and his turkey mix on Monday, but did not eat a thing Tuesday or yesterday. And yesterday he dug himselft a faily long and deep tunnel, long enough to fit in tip to tip, that's nearly 4', you'd think he'd build an apetite.

That is why I think giving in portions gives a regular diet and appitite. each week I raise the amount of intake. That way they are eating every day and I am not waisting food. :D

I tried that, too,Alek but when I don't let him eat as much as he wants to he licks us and huffs and puffs. That's when we got bit ( my boyfriend twice and me once ).Now I let him eat as much as he wants to and he doesn't bite any more.Sometimes he eats in the morning and than he eats again in the afternoon.
