    Default Beautiful Wild Tegu

Take a look at this gorgeous guy:

It looks like a cross between a gold and a b/w..

I think it's a problem with the web site's form. It says in the caption that they were at Iquazu Falls in Argentina, which is exactly where you would expect to see tegus that are wild but willing to let a tourist get this close. That's also exactly where I want to go, in case anyone has room on their private jet. A friend of mine saw tegus there (in addition to the most spectacular water falls in the universe) and showed me pictures that looked just like this!

Been there, Foz do Iguassu are magnificent. There isn't any place on the ground where you can stand and see all the falls at once. They are THAT large. They're right at the border between Brasil and Argentina, also a stone's throw from Paraguay. The Brasil side definitely has the better views, but the Argentinian side has walkways that go out over the edge of some of the falls. Stunning either way.

As for the species, it's still Tupinambis merianae, it isn't a hybrid. As I keep trying to stress, the species is highly polymorphic, it comes in many different colours and patterns. But if you think the tegus are friendly there, do NOT put your back packs or bags on the ground. The coatis there will dogpile it in less than a second and start tearing into them with gleeful abandon.

I HAVE to go there. I like to think they are what the Grand Canyon used to look like way back when. Weren't these falls the backdrop in the final scene of Aguirre, the Wrath of God, when the monkeys were crawling all over the boat?

    Tupinambis!

It's good to see you on the boards again! I envy you, one day I plan on taking a trip to see those falls and of course taking tons of pictures of the wild tegu. It would be nice to introduce new bloodlines with such outstanding color to the states.
