Thread: Has anyone ever seen these in the pet trade?

  1. #1

Default Has anyone ever seen these in the pet trade?

    Tupinambis quadrilineatus, (Four-striped Tegu)

Tupinambis palustris, (Haven't found a common name)

    Tupinambis duseni, (Yellow Tegu)

    Tupinambis longilineus, (Rondona)

Are any of these even allowed in to the US? The reason I ask is because I've just been looking around for more info about Tegus and found out there there are these other species and was just curious to see if anyone has actually ever seen one or maybe even has one.

    Thanks Mike

Hi Mike. Welcome to the Tegu forum family. To be honest with you I haven't seen any othe those ones before. I also don't know if they are legal in the US. Sorry I can't help you out with this one.

Seen them in Brasil. And that's why you aren't likely to see them in the US any time soon. Right now, Brasil is very much against biological trade, and under normal circumstances, they will not allow "pet trade" with any of their indigenous species. Which, for the most part, prevents those from appearing in trade because they primarily only exist in Brasil.

I ran into someone at a reptile show who claimed to have a breeding pair of a tegu new to the pet trade. For the life of me, I can't remember what it was, but I'll find out. He wasn't certain that he would be ablt to hatch a clutch since he didn't have a reference for incubation temps and times.

Ahhhh these guys bring back memories

at my first reptile show almost seven years ago they had some yellow tegus for sale for $500 I think. Nobody knew it until the day it opened but all the guys that were vendors were all buddies that were into selling wildcaught illegal reptiles. By the time the athourities were notified these guys were no where to be seen...I beleive they caught a few of them a few months later.

    Yep,

The name tupinambis nigropunctatus was later changed to the Tupinambis teguixin we know today. They did find an excellent picture to use there!

O i know it seem to just have the wrong name down for them because it you look at the pic it is Orange & if you're screen has high enough rez (mines a 42" plasma 1220x1799) you'll see it also has "beaded skin" not a Colombian. & if you check the links in the S. American section you'll find the Colombian Gold & the B&W, along with other speices.
